The highly anticipated red carpet of the 90th Academy Awards was a fashion lover’s dream. Oozing glitz and glam, Hollywood’s A-listers brought high fashion to the film world as leading ladies donned some of the most spectacular gowns the film industry has ever seen. We take a look at some of the best dressed ladies and the designers behind their looks.

One of the first to walk the red carpet was actress Allison Williams. The Girls star was dressed in a cream Armani Privé couture gown featuring a jewelled bodice with a softly pleated bottom half. The actress was supporting her movie Get Out, which was nominated for several awards and ended up winning Best Original Screenplay.

Black Panther star and previous Best Supporting Actress winner Lupita Nyong’o commanded attention in a gold shimmery dress. The one-shouldered Atelier Versace gown featured beaded black detail from the shoulder to the hip. Lupita completed the look with minimal accessories. This dress will definitely be a favourite among the fashion critics who will appreciate Lupita not playing it safe.

Christian Dior queen Jennifer Lawrence wore a metallic sequined spaghetti strap gown from the luxury house’s pre-fall collection. Critics have commented that the chainmail resembling dress designed by Maria Grazia Chiuri, one of the few female creative heads of a major fashion house, made a bold feminist statement.

Other actresses that made best dressed lists include Best Actress nominee Margot Robbie in a white Chanel haute couture gown, Nicole Kidman in a blue Armani Privé number and Emily Blunt in a pale blue couture dress by Schiaparelli.
