MUMBAI: Actress Sonakshi Sinha may have performed a disco song in Himmatwala but in real life she does not go to clubs or disco regularly.
For Sajid Khan’s upcoming film Himmatwala, Sonakshi has performed a special song Thank God Its Friday, a take on the disco culture of the 80s.
“In today’s time we say clubs and not disco. I don’t like clubbing much. I am a homely body... though I do go to clubs at times,” Sonakshi told reporters here on Friday night at the launch of the song.
In the song, Sonakshi dons a vintage sequin golden dress with matching headgear and her looks bear similarity with Parveen Babi’s look in the song — Pyar Karne Wale from the film Shaan.
Her another look in the song resembles that of Sridevi’s in Raaste Mein Woh Khada Tha from Chaalbaaz where she is dressed in tight black pants, jackets, boots and gloves.
“I had seen the videos of these two songs to understand the dancing style. Besides this I did no preparation,” Sonakshi said adding, “I have thoroughly enjoyed doing these dance moves.”
All praise
Director Sajid is also all praise for Sonakshi.
“I must say this is not an item song... its a special song. In the original Himmatwala, there was no disco song but we have it as it goes well with the storyline of our film.
“I think we can’t compare Sonakshi with anyone. She is a good actress and a good dancer. I am happy she agreed to do the song,” he said.
Himmatwala is a remake of Jeetendra-Sridevi starrer film of the same name. The remake version, starring Ajay Devgn and south actress Tamannaah, is slated for release on March 29.
Sonakshi has done an item number in Akshay Kumar’s Oh My God, alongside Prabhu Deva, which was released last year.
When she was asked if she is looking forward to be the next item queen, Sonakshi said that she hopes to become one and she like dancing and music.
If some good song comes her way she will do it.
She also said that both songs in the movies OMG and Himmatwala are different.
