DUBAI: Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (Dewa) has approved an organisation-wide work plan to implement the Dubai Smart Training Initiative, launched by the Dubai Government Excellence Programme (DGEP) of the Secretariat General of the Dubai Executive Council.

The Smart Training Initiative promotes the capabilities of government employees and empowers them in excellence, creativity, quality, and the application of excellent government performance concepts. Dewa’s implementation of the Dubai Smart Training Initiative supports the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, and his vision for the transformation towards smart government.

“His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum has a clear vision for developing organisational government work to be on par with, and even exceed, the private sector’s performance and quality levels. His Highness has always supported the development of the public sector and gives his full support to National staff by launching leading and creative development initiatives and programmes to enhance their skills and foster organisational capabilities. DGEP is the first comprehensive government excellence programme in the world. It is a basis for innovation and the driving force to achieve top positions in all areas,” said Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of Dewa.

“The Dubai Smart Training Initiative supports the Smart Dubai initiative to transform Dubai into the smartest city in the world, and the Dubai Plan 2021 for Dubai Government to be proactive and creative in making people happier, and for Dubai to be a city of happy, creative, and empowered people. The work plan that Dewa is currently developing to implement the Dubai Smart Training Initiative will play a key role in encouraging staff to participate in this initiative and maximise their benefits from it,” added Al Tayer.

“The programme introduces staff to the development of quality and excellence, the eight concepts of excellence, and how their implementation helps government organisations to develop and improve their performance and distinction in all areas. The training programme focuses on how to improve Dewa’s performance and capabilities and how partnerships can play a key role in reinforcing such efforts. It also develops staff by encouraging teamwork to overcome potential challenges. It also highlights the procedures that government organisations can take to ensure excellence sustainability, by predicting and handling external and internal changing factors. This is done in a work environment where the government organisations assumes its responsibilities towards society and a sustainable environment that contributes to achieving a better future for generations to come,” said Dr Yousef Al Akraf, Executive Vice President of Business Support and Human Resources at Dewa.

The Smart Training Initiative includes a series of training programmes that discuss the principles, standards, and concepts of excellence. The first training programme includes nine smart training packages including adding value to customers and making them happier, maximising benefits from innovation and creativity, sustainability of excellent results, leading with a vision, inspiration, and integrity, building a sustainable future, developing organisational capabilities, and achieving success through employees’ capabilities.
