NEW DELHI: Oscar winning Indian musician A.R.Rahman, was trolled and abused on social media, after one of his daughters Khatija was seen sharing the stage with him wearing a Niqaab (Islamic veil).

Khatija Rahman, one of his two daughters, has responded to the many accusations that have been trending around aiming at her father being the person who has forced her to adorn the veil.

While Rahmans wife and his younger daughter do not adorn the veil, Khatija who has chosen to do so on her her own accord, took to her social media account to address the issue which was aimed at bringing her dads reputation in bad light.

She addressed the issue rather calmly explaining how the choice to wear the niqaab has always been her own and hasn’t been forced on her by her dad or anyone.

Her statement read: “The recent conversation of myself on stage with my dad has been doing the rounds. Although, I didn’t expect such an overwhelming response. However, there were certain comments which said that this attire is being forced by my dad and that he has double standards. I would like to say that the attire I wear or the choices I make in my life does not have anything to do with my parents. The veil has been my personal choice with complete acceptance and honour. I’m a sane mature adult who knows to make my choices in life. Any human being has a choice to wear or do what he/she wants and that’s what I’ve been doing. Hence, kindly don’t make your own judgements without understanding the exact situation.”

Rahman, known for his impeccable contribution in the music world, has always been known as a man of few words.

He continues to stand up for his daughters decision and respects her willingness to choose to wear the niqaab.
