DUBAI: The General Command of Dubai Police has launched a Smart Controller machine in Al Garhoud for “better monitoring of road traffic and thus increasing road safety.”

The first machine was installed on Sept.24 at Al Garhoud by the Commander of Dubai Police, Maj. Gen. Abdullah Khalifa Al Marri in the presence of the Director General of Traffic Department, Brig. Saif Mohair Al Mazrouie and the head of Smart Controller Project, Capt. Ali Al Rasmi.

Sourced from China, the machine produces a “clearer picture as well as being an app run by a team of police officers selected and trained to control it,” said General Abdullah.

He added that the machine can ably apply all the nine functions the previous radars are able to perform such as direct transmission of the message to the command and Control Centre.

MYRIAD FUNCTIONS

Capt. Al Rasmi said the machine which can stream communication wirelessly, is equipped with a high quality surveillance camera.

“It cannot be obscured with any maximum speed limit violation and it has an alarm and a microphone for transmitting warning sound messages.”

He said the Smart Controller can be controlled on smartphones and the technical team can use it in several sites and places of events.

“It may be used to warn pedestrians from crossing highways or warn people of bad weather or ‘an accident ahead’, and it can be easily used in controlling events.”

Brigadier Al Mazrouei said the Smart Controller is “characterised by its high accuracy and clarity of its controls.”

He stressed that the use of traffic control techniques aims to reduce the recklessness of some drivers and deter them by all means to protect the lives of road users.
