ABU DHABI: Three Emiratis were killed while a fourth was seriously injured in an accident on Thursday evening in Delma Island, Abu Dhabi.

The Abu Dhabi Police said on Twitter that a vehicle had flipped over after crashing into a lamppost, claiming the lives of the three Emiratis and injuring a fourth.

Meanwhile, Adnan Okasha adds: Two Asians were killed while two Emiratis and two other Asian nationals were wounded in a vehicle collision that took place late on Thursday in Ras Al Khaimah. The two vehicles involved had reportedly entered the under construction part of the new ring road in the emirate, which was not yet ready for usage, hence causing the accident.

Ras Al Khaimah Police confirmed that the section of the new bridge, from near the entrance of the Awafi area, to the other end, near Sheml area, on the ring road, was closed. Police urged drivers to avoid it for their safety.

Brigadier Mohamed Saeed Al Humaidi, Director General of Central Operations at Ras Al Khaimah Police, said that the operations room received a call at 11.30 pm on Thursday, reporting that two vehicles had collided resulting in the death of two persons. The police patrols and the ambulance immediately rushed to the location of the accident, where preliminary examinations showed that it happened due to a collision between two vehicles. There were no lights on the road where the accident took place, as it had not been officially opened yet, Al Humaidi added.

The accident caused the death of the first car’s driver, Asian, 46, and another one, 32, who was among others accompanying him in the vehicle. It also caused minor to medium wounds to two other co-travellers.

Meanwhile, the second car’s driver, an Emirati, 21, and his compatriot, 39, sustained various degrees of injury. The injured were transferred to a hospital. Also, the dead bodies were sent to a hospital to be delivered to their families for burial. The accident’s file then has been referred to the concerned departments for further legal measures, Al Humaidi added.

Al Humaidi further called on the road users to abide by the traffic instructions, emphasising the need to exercise caution and ensure that the road was free before entering it, for their own safety.
