SHARJAH: Sharjah Municipality has made it obligatory to pay for parking even on Fridays in some of the busy areas of Sharjah, according to a senior official of Sharjah Municipality.

Taking effect from today (Mar.30) the areas that will feature paid parking even on Fridays are Al Hisn area (Bank Street area),  in Shuwaihan and Al Shoyoukh, the Corniche road at Al Shuwaihan area, The Birds Souq at Jubail area, The Central Souq at Al Majaz 1, Buhaira Corniche and Al Majaz 1, 2 and 3.

According to Khalid Bin Falah Al Suwaidi, Assistant of the Sharjah Municipality Director for Client Services, the implementation of the new law that will exclude parking in certain areas that was previously free on Fridays is mainly aimed at ensuring the availability of parking on the popularly busy roads, especially during holidays, and to organise the parking and ensure availability of parking areas.

“This was also the request of many clients who are finding it hard to find parking in the busy areas of Sharjah. Many tenants have been exploiting the free parking day to park their cars for the whole day. We want to make sure parking is available all day long.”

Ali Ahmed Bu Ghazen, Director of the Public Parking Department at Sharjah Municipality, said that the department has already started installing the signboards on the specified areas where parking will not be free of charge. The special signboards shall do the job of updating motorists on the new amendment, and that parking is payable all week long, including holidays.

“We are sparing no efforts to offer the best level of services to the community. We are aware that this new law will not be a source of relief or convenience to some parts of society, but we are simply trying to ensure that there is parking available especially on a holiday.”
