India reported 7,579 new coronavirus infections on Tuesday, the smallest rise in one-and-a-half-years despite huge festival gatherings in recent weeks, thanks to rising vaccinations and antibodies from prior infections.

A government statement said on Tuesday that the country is registering less than 50,000 daily new cases for 37 continuous days and saw a decline of 10,585 cases from Monday when India recorded 41,134 fresh cases of COVID-19 and 424 fatalities.
As per the health ministry data the active caseload also registered a decline of 3,286 in past 24 hours, and cumulatively stands at 364,129, the lowest in 149 days. The active caseload constitutes 1.13 per cent of the total cases, the lowest since March 2020.
India's cumulative COVID count has gone up to 32,424,234, while the total recoveries stand at 31,636,469 and 434,367 people have succumbed to the infection so far.
For the first time in the past six days, daily cases again crossed the 40,000 mark. According to a government statement overall deaths in the country increased by 490 overnight, pushing the tally to 4,29,669.
