Social networking sites and British media circulated the news that the star of the Egyptian national team and Liverpool club, Mohamed Salah, had contracted the coronavirus, while the club’s management published a clarification statement in this regard.

According to the British media, “The first swab that Salah conducted with his team players before facing Tottenham in the English Premier League revealed that he was infected with the virus.”

The network pointed out that the star of the Egyptian national team and Liverpool, England, "underwent a second swab, on Saturday, with the aim of making sure that he was infected with the virus or not, and in light of the result, the fate of the Liverpool-Tottenham meeting will be decided."

In response to these reports, Liverpool FC published a statement saying that "there are no indications that Mohamed Salah has contracted the coronavirus, and it is not right to speculate on matters related to health."

The Egyptian star continues to shine with his team, which occupies the runner-up position by 40 points, behind leaders Manchester City by one point, and Salah is the top scorer in the English Premier League so far with 15 goals.

The Reds lost Virgil van Dijk and Fabinho to positive cases of Covid before kick-off as a surge of infections across Britain threatens to bring the season to a temporary halt.

Liverpool were further rocked when Jonjo Shelvey opened the scoring against his old club after just seven minutes.

But Newcastle remained mired in the bottom three for a reason as goals from Diogo Jota and Mohamed Salah turned the game around before half-time.

Alexander-Arnold's thunderbolt four minutes from time rounded off an eighth consecutive win for Jurgen Klopp's men as they close to within one point of leaders Manchester City.
