SCED meeting discusses latest economic developments in Ajman

The Standing Committee of Economic Development (SCED) which is affiliating to the Executive Council of Ajman remotely held its 7th meeting for 2020 chaired by Abdullah Al Muwaiji, Chairman of the Committee, to review the latest developments in the economic sector in the emirate and to shed light on the important strategic and economic projects locally and federally.

Commencing the meeting, Al Muwaiji praised the efforts of the prudent leadership in the UAE in implementing strategic projects in several areas that push the UAE forward in a time that most of the world is suffering from ramifications of coronavirus pandemic.

The meeting reviewed the objectives of the global logistical passport to serve the exporters of the Emirate of Ajman and to enhance the export environment.

It eases access for the emirate’s exporters to the global markets and helps open new markets and exchange of knowledge and skills in the field of managing multimodal transport services, smart and automated logistics services and technologies. It also contributes to establishing and strengthening the relationship of parties through networks, conferences, visits and other means of international business activities.

The members stressed the importance of cooperation between all concerned parties to provide the necessary support for entrepreneurs to engage in projects with added value, and the need to provide training and advisory channels for them.

At the end of the meeting, Al Muwaiji thanked the SCED’s members of for their participation in shaping the features of the economic environment in the emirate, monitoring and discussing the most prominent practices, and submitting constructive proposals and recommendations to the decision-makers in the emirate.

He said, “During the previous weeks, we witnessed the launch of Hope Probe that has made the UAE a key partner in the space exploration in general and Mars in particular. This was followed by the operation of the first peaceful nuclear energy reactor in the Arab world at the Barakah plant, which stands as a new qualitative achievement for the country to enter a new era of using peaceful nuclear energy to generate electricity with national competencies and cadres.”

The meeting witnessed a presentation about the UAE National Space Programme “From Zayed’s Dream to Khalifa’s Fact”, presented by Dr. Mohammed Nasser Al Ahbabi, Director General of the UAE Space Agency, who highlighted the economic, strategic and scientific benefits of investing in space.

He briefed the attendees on the country’s efforts in the space sector including adoption of space science education in 3 national universities, Mars exploration mission “Probe of Hope”, the UAE Space Agency, more than 3,000 employees, 10 satellites already in orbit and 8 are being manufactured, investments amounting to Dhs22 billion, the astronaut programme and 5 national centers for research and development.

Meanwhile, Mohammed Nasser reviewed the main tasks of the UAE Space Agency in organising the space sector, developing human cadres, promoting scientific research, international cooperation and partnerships, and accomplishing the Mars mission.
