Pakistan, UAE trade on solid track, says Ameet Kumar

The UAE is Pakistan’s largest trading partner in the Middle East and a major source of investments and remittances. This was stated by Ameet Kumar, a leading Dubai-based Pakistani businessman and founder and CEO of Kiann Enterprises, during an exclusive interview with Gulf Today, adding that the trade volume between the two countries amounted to around $8.19 billion in the year 2019.

He mentioned that the UAE and Pakistan ties are historic. We have a large diaspora here and their contribution toward the UAE’s socio-economic development is recognised.

He said Pakistan and the UAE enjoyed close friendly relations that should be transformed into growing trade and economic ties.

Kumar stated that Pakistan has already announced its  participation at the Expo 2020 Dubai with its pavilion under the theme Pakistan: The Hidden Treasure’ and we encourage everyone to come and visit, adding that the Pakistani Pavilion would exhibit Pakistan’s history, culture, agriculture, tourism, and hospitality.

As a leading dry dates exporter in the country we are planning  to diversify export of dates to other markets of the world.

Pakistan is the world’s fifth-largest producer of dates and exports,  adding that the country exports $107.4 million worth of fresh or dried dates to the world.

“Pakistan also exported dry dates worth $1.2 million in 2019-20 to Singapore and $1.13 million to Thailand for the first time in 2019-20. He said other vital export destinations where date exports witnessed an increasing trend include UAE, Kuwait, Oman, Bangladesh, Turkey, etc.” Kumar concluded.

According to the Ministry of Food Security data, annual date production in the country is estimated at 550,000 tonnes. Moreover, 50 per cent of of this is produced in Sindh alone. The rest of is contributed by Punjab, Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
