Season 3 of American Idol has just begun and so has the drama!
Katy Perry was at the centre of a mishap that occurred on the singing reality show, which was revived on ABC in 2018 following its 15-year run on Fox.
The singer collapsed after inhaling fumes from a gas leak while filming the current series, in footage that has emerged ahead of the next episode.
In a clip of an episode airing this Sunday (Feb.23), the singer and judge of the show can be seen falling to the ground after the studio is evacuated.
Perry and her fellow judges Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie are forced to leave the building during an audition, and Perry can be heard saying: “Do you guys smell gas? It’s pretty intense.”
Getting up from her seat, she adds: “I have a slight headache from it. Oh, it’s bad, it’s really bad.”
Sirens can then be heard as emergency services rush to the studio and the crew and contestants are evacuated from the building.
Bryan tells the crowd: “This is not a joke, there really is a gas leak.”
Perry then shouts “I’m not feeling good” before collapsing to the ground.
Perry’s representative was contacted for a comment.
This is Perry’s third season as a judge on American Idol, during the course of which she has stirred quite a few controversies, including the 2018 episode wherein she infamously kissed American Idol contestant Benjamin Glaze without his consent, leading to outrage on social media.
The singer found herself in hot water recently after being named the ambassador for the British Asian Trust, with some accusing the star of encouraging “white saviour” complex.
When her post was announced, Perry revealed that Prince Charles, who appointed her, had asked her to sing to his plants.
