Go ahead, make my day: Hollywood icon Clint Eastwood, a long-time Republican, backs Democrat Bloomberg over Trump

US President Donald Trump is once again in the line of fire, this time from none other than Hollywood’s Clint Eastwood, a one-time swashbuckling, trigger-happy actor of such memorable films as  ‘For a Few Dollars More,’ ‘Pale Rider’ and ‘The Outlaw Josey Wales.’

Eastwood, a legendary filmmaker and long-time Republican, has done a U-turn on political loyalties: he is endorsing Michael Bloomberg, a hardcore Democrat, to reign from the White House after the next elections and not Donald Trump.

Eastwood, who also acted in the epic spaghetti western ‘The Good, the Bad and the Ugly,’ is sticking to his guns and laments the bad and the ugly nature of today's "ornery" politics in America.

He also thinks that Donald Trump should act “in a more genteel way, without tweeting and calling people names”.

In 2016 Eastwood voiced his support for Trump in an interview filled with cuss words. However, he is known for his bizarre act of addressing an empty chair at the 2012 Republican National Convention in Tampa, Florida. An invisible Barack Obama was supposed to be seated in the chair.

Eastwood endorsed the brash billionaire Trump over Hillary Clinton in 2016 because, as he said at the time, he feared she would "follow in (president Barack) Obama's footsteps."

"The best thing we could do is just get Mike Bloomberg in there," he said in the interview released late on Friday, referring to the US media tycoon who jumped into the Democratic presidential nomination race in November.

Eastwood and Bloomberg have a sliver of political experience in common. Bloomberg, 78, is the former mayor of New York. Eastwood served for two years as mayor of Carmel, California.
