“The Queen’s Gambit” now enjoys the distinction of featuring most widely viewed pieces of content on Netflix across all categories.
The 20th century-based drama, which follows the rise of chess wunderkind Beth Harmon (Anya Taylor-Joy), has been viewed by 62 million households during its first 28 days of release.
The official Netflix Twitter account wrote: “A record-setting 62 million households chose to watch The Queen's Gambit in its first 28 days, making it Netflix's biggest scripted limited series to date.”
The limited series — a term used to describe a miniseries with no plans for future continuation — has also resulted in a surge in interest in the game.
As per Netflix, Google searches for “How to Play Chess” have hit a nine-year peak.
In addition, the series made it to the Top 10 in 92 countries and ranked No.1 in 63 countries.
The 1983 eponymous novel on which the show is based also benefitted from the drama’s success by entering the New York Times bestseller list.
“The Queen’s Gambit”now enjoys the distinction of being the most widely viewed pieces of content on Netflix across all categories.
At 62 million household views, the series sits just 2 million behind the third season of “Stranger Things,” at 64 million, although still at a stretch from the site’s most popular original movie, “Extraction,” starring Chris Hemsworth, which managed a reported 99 million viewers in a month.
