Pakistan's renowned playwright Haseena Moin passes away in Karachi

Pakistan’s renowned dramatist and novelist Haseena Moin passed away in Karachi on Friday. She was 80. She had been battling cancer for the past few years.

Haseena Moin was perhaps one of the most celebrated playwrights and scriptwriters to come out of Pakistan and had to her credit several accolades.

These include the Pride of Performance award from the Government for her services to the performing arts in the country. She also holds the distinction of penning Pakistan’s first original script, Kiran Kahani, in the early 1970s.

Her best TV dramas include Dhoop Kinary, Ankhai, Tanhaiyan, Ahat, Ansoo and many more. The cause of her death was not immediately announced. Twitter was instantly flooded with an outpouring of grief at her death.

Haseena Moin, one of the most prolific dramatists in Pakistani history, was known for writing classics like Tanhaiyaan, Anakhi and Dhoop Kinare. She was also the one who introduced Zeba Bakhtiar to Raj Kapoor for the movie Henna, which Moin also wrote.

She was last seen in public at a Pakistan Day event at the Arts Council of Pakistan in Karachi on March 23. A day before that, she visited the Arts Council of Pakistan to get vaccinated against COVID-19.

A web-series she wrote on breast cancer is scheduled to release next month. She was a breast cancer survivor.
