Leonardo DiCaprio tackles climate crisis in satire 'Don't Look Up'

Actor Leonardo DiCaprio confirmed during the release of the movie "Don't Lock Up" produced by "Netflix", that he agreed to participate in this work because his story centered on a comet that threatens to eliminate all life on Earth is very similar to the current situation due to the global climate crisis.

In this satirical work, the American actor and his co-star Jennifer Lawrence embody the role of two astronauts who try in vain to educate the divided American public, in a country led by an incompetent president, played by Meryl Streep.

Returning from COP26 in Glasgow, Leonardo DiCaprio said the film, written and directed by Adam McKay, succeeds in sparking excitement about a crisis "that has been around for more than a century."

"How can we as a human race, as a society and a culture, manage politically, deal with an imminent armageddon," DiCaprio said during the presentation of the film in Los Angeles.

"Within two hours, the film succeeds in showing the absurdity of our response as humankind to this crisis," he added.

The film, which also stars Ariana Grande, Cate Blanchett, Mark Rylance and Jonah Hill, will released in American theaters on December 10, before broadcasting on “Netflix” from December 24.

Adam McKay has become one of the most prominent directors in Hollywood, while some critics expect "Don't Lock Up" to win the Oscars.

DiCaprio hopes the film will prompt companies and governments to make a "radical inflection" in their policies toward the climate crisis. But he admits that he is not very optimistic about humans' ability to cope with the climate problem.
