Actress Hayden Panettiere will reprise her “Scream 4” role of Kirby Reed for the next instalment in the franchise. She’s set to star alongside Melissa Barrera, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Mason Gooding and Jenna Ortega, who toplined the recent reboot of the franchise from directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett (aka Radio Silence), report ‘Variety’.
The next “Scream” film will pick up with Sam (Barrera), Mindy (Brown), Chad (Gooding) and Tara (Ortega) — four survivors of the most recent batch of Ghostface killings — as they leave Woodsboro behind and start a fresh chapter. Panettiere’s Kirby, you might recall, is the former Woodsboro resident who was the lone teenage survivor of the Second Woodsboro Murders in the fourth “Scream” film.
Principal photography on the sequel, also to be helmed by Radio Silence, will kick off this summer. James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick are co-writing the screenplay, with Project X Entertainment’s Vanderbilt, Paul Neinstein and William Sherak serving as producers. “Scream” franchise creator Kevin Williamson and Radio Silence’s third member, Chad Villella, will executive produce alongside Spyglass’ Gary Barber and Peter Oillataguerre, Ron Lynch, Cathy Konrad and Marianne Maddalena.
It will hit theatres worldwide March 31, 2023. Panettiere is well-known for her roles on the hit television series “Heroes” (NBC) and “Nashville” (ABC), and for starring in such films as “Custody,” alongside Viola Davis, “The Forger,” with Josh Hutcherson and “Remember the Titans,” opposite Denzel Washington. She is an American actress, model, and singer.
She is best known for her lead roles as Claire Bennet on the NBC superhero series “Heroes” (2006–2010) and Juliette Barnes in the ABC/CMT musical drama series “Nashville” (2012–2018), the latter of which earned her two nominations for the Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actress – Series, Miniseries or Television Film.
A native of Palisades, New York, she first appeared on-screen in a commercial in 1990 at only 11 months old. However, her full-time acting career did not begin until 1994 when playing Sarah Roberts on the long-running ABC soap opera series “One Life to Live” from that year until 1997. She then went on to play Lizzie Spaulding on one of CBS’s own soaps, “Guiding Light” from 1996 until 2000.
Panettiere has also starred in the Disney football drama film “Remember the Titans” (2000), the final season of the “Fox legal comedy-drama series Ally McBeal” (2002), the slasher horror film “Scream 4” (2011), and the drama film “Custody” (2016). She also voiced the characters of Kairi and Xion in the video game series “Kingdom Hearts” (2002–2017) and Samantha “Sam” Giddings in the video game “Until Dawn” (2015). “Custody” was released in 2016.
