Florence Pugh skips ‘Don’t Worry Darling’ press conference in Venice

Florence Pugh had arrived in Venice ahead of the “Don’t Worry Darling” premiere that took place on Sept.5. The 26-year-old actor flew to Italy from Budapest where she has been filming the sequel to “Dune.” Her afternoon flight meant she was unable to attend the press conference for her new film, which was directed by Olivia Wilde, and co-stars Harry Styles, Chris Pine, and Gemma Chan.
Wilde, Styles, Pine and Chan all appeared at a photocall for the film on Monday morning before the press conference. Pugh attended the premiere of the film, before flying back to Budapest on Tuesday morning. For her airport arrival look, Pugh donned a Valentino royal purple co-ord set consisting of shorts, a bralette top, and an oversized shirt all in the same design.
The look was pulled from the Valentino Resort 2023 collection, and Pugh accesorised it with black sunglasses, gold earrings, and a gold septum hoop. The second image of the series gave fans a sneak peak as to what Pugh could be wearing at the film’s premiere, as she showed an array of red Valentino lipsticks on a makeup table.
Pugh’s appearance at the premier comes after a rumoured feud between the actor and Wilde. When asked about the feud during today’s press conference, Wilde replied: “She’s amazing in the film and as for all the endless tabloid gossip and all the noise out there, I mean, the internet feeds itself. I don’t feel the need to contribute, I think it’s sufficiently well nourished.” Meanwhile, Florence said that it’s “inspiring” to “see a woman push back and say ‘no’, on and off camera”.
The actor made the comment while appearing on the red carpet at the Venice Film Festival premiere of her new film “Don’t Worry Darling.” Wilde was asked about the rumours at a press conference earlier in the day. “I can’t say enough how honoured I am to have her as our lead,” she responded. “She’s amazing in the film and as for all the endless tabloid gossip and all the noise out there, I mean, the internet feeds itself. I don’t feel the need to contribute, I think it’s sufficiently well nourished.”
The filmmaker previously said that the feud is nothing but “invented clickbait”, while Pugh has not commented on the rumours. While appearing on the red carpet, Pugh was asked by an Italian journalist about what she found “inspiring” in the film. “I think it’s very inspiring to see a woman push back and say ‘no’, and question everything” she replied. “It’s very exciting to see a woman do that on and off camera.”
Asked when she “says ‘no’” off camera, Pugh jokingly responded: “When do I say ‘no’? When someone says I can’t have cake.” In a three-star review for The Independent, Geoffrey Macnab writes: “This isn’t the disaster that some predicted – but it is a messy, convoluted affair with some very contrived plotting. Styles gives a surprisingly dull and low-wattage performance as Jack. To be fair, he is playing a very dull character, a kind of Stepford husband.”
