Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan is not only a huge box-office star, he also has a huge heart. He has set up a charity, Meer Foundation, which helps those in distress or in dire need.
For instance, he donated over a million rupees to help the flood victims in Kerala. It is not for nothing that he is the co-owner of Kolkata Knight Riders, a team named after a city that thinks from the heart. He helps people from all segments of society, be it cancer patients or acid attack victims.
Another instance of Shah Rukh’s humane side came to the fore recently when he called, through video, a 60-year-old Bengali fan battling terminal cancer. He promised to meet her soon and help finance her treatment. He even recited a ‘dua’ (prayer) for her.
The patient is a big fan of the star, and wanted to meet him at least once before she passed away. Shah Rukh fulfilled her request virtually.
A resident of Khardah, West Bengal, the 60-year-old patient named Shivani Chakraborty has been suffering from terminal cancer for several years now. Her desire to meet the megastar struck a chord with him, who called her back despite his hectic schedule. Pictures and video of the call set the internet ablaze.
According to a report in a section of the Indian media, Shivani’s daughter Priya said that the star wished her mother a speedy recovery and said he would visit her at her home to have a home-cooked fish dish, but without bones.
