Actress and fashionista Sonam Kapoor said that she grew up surrounded by fashion and when she entered the film industry in 2007 with “Saawariya,” the red carpet looks were “non-existent.” Sonam said: “I love fashion. My mum used to be a fashion designer. So, I grew up surrounded by fashion.” “When I entered the industry, I noticed that red carpet looks were not so common, in fact non-existent, and I wanted to wear beautiful things and go on the red carpet. I started doing that without realising I was different to everyone else.” She added that her passion for films and fashion led her to create an impact. “I am enjoying fashion and beautiful things without taking myself too seriously. Fashion is supposed to be fun, an escape. It’s important to appreciate the beauty and goodness in life.”
According to a global fashion report, Sonam was amongst the list of celebrities like Zendaya, Kylie Jenner, Kendall Jenner, Blackpink, BTS, etc who had the highest impact for luxury fashion brands in 2023.
On the work front, Sonam has two tent pole projects, one being “Battle for Bittora.” The details of other projects have been kept under wraps.
Meanwhile, Sonam is ready to explore streaming platforms if she is approached with a tentpole film or series. Sonam said: “For me, being a part of good content and good cinema is all that matters. The platform where it’s releasing is immaterial because the world has changed. I’m excited to lead a project on streaming that bowls people over. I’m thoroughly loving the diversity of content out there.”
Sonam is an avid watcher of content on streaming and is happy how the platforms have changed the content appetite of people. She shared: “I have always been wanting to make my foray into streaming, provided I’m headlining a tentpole film or a series on a global streaming platform. I have been a binge watcher of the outstanding content that streaming platforms have been creating for years now.” The actress, who is back at filming after her pregnancy, added: “I believe streaming platforms have pushed the content envelope of our country, have made it more creatively disruptive and dynamic.”
“The bar that streaming content has set globally as well as in India is incredible. Streaming allows you to experiment a lot as an artiste. It is a very exciting medium for me. So, I’m all game to make my debut on streaming.”
Sonam concluded: “I know my debut on streaming has been a long time coming and I hope people will really love what I’m going to offer.” Sonam revealed that it took her 16 months to feel like herself again after the birth of her son Vayu Kapoor Ahuja in August 2022. Sonam took to Instagram, where she shared a string of pictures looking drop-dead-gorgeous in a lehenga. To complete her look, she sported earrings and tied her hair into a bun. She then captioned the images by penning: “It’s taken me 16 months to feel like myself again.”
