Kiara Advani to represent India at Women in Cinema dinner at Cannes

Bollywood actress Kiara Advani is set to represent the country at the Red Sea Film Foundation Women in Cinema gala dinner at the 77th edition of the Cannes Film Festival, to be held in the French Riviera from Tuesday. Hosted by Vanity Fair, the gala will bring together six women from across the globe to honour their achievements, both in front of and behind the camera. Kiara made her debut with “Fugly” in 2014, she was then seen playing myriad characters, from the independent Naina in “JugJugg Jeeyo” to the complex Nanki in “Guilty” and Preeti, a vulnerable woman caught in a passionate but troubled relationship in “Kabir Singh.”

Kiara has then worked in movies such as “Shershaah” and “Satyaprem Ki Katha,” where she showcased her acting prowess. Looking forward, Kiara is now gearing up for the release of the political thriller “Game Changer,” directed by S. Shankar and co-starring Ram Charan. She also has “Don 3” and “War 2” in the pipeline.

Meanwhile, Kiara, who will be soon seen in the Telugu political action thriller “Game Changer” has a penchant for baking. The actress took to her Instagram on Thursday and shared a video of baking a cake and garnishing it with biscuits and choco chips, wearing a black T-shirt, a blue striped shirt, and a pair of denim. She wrote in the caption, “Baking with my favourite snakk (sic).” On the work front, the actress will soon be seen sharing the screen with Telugu star Ram Charan in ‘Game Changer’. The film directed by S. Shankar features Ram Charan in a triple role, leading an ensemble cast of Anjali, S.J. Suryah, Jayaram, Sunil, Srikanth, Samuthirakani, and Nassar. The actress also has ‘Don 3’ in the pipeline, which has Ranveer Singh in the titular role.

The 77th edition of the Cannes Film Festival is set to be held in the French Riviera from May 14 with India set to make its mark on the canvas of the prestigious film festival, considered to be one of the biggest film festivals in the world. Seven films from India will be a part of the festival. One of the films, and India’s big hopes comes in the form of the Malayalam film “All We Imagine As Light.”

“All We Imagine As Light” follows the story of two roommates who serve as nurses at a hospital. The film will be the 1st Indian film in the main segment (Palme d’Or) of Cannes, the last was “Swaham” which was released in 1994. Another film to be screened at the festival is “Santosh.”  Then there’s the Kannada short film “Sunflowers Were The First Ones To Know.”  The Smita Patil and Naseeruddin Shah-starrer “Manthan,” which was released in 1976, is set to be screened under the Cannes Classics selection.

Radhika Apte’s film “Sister Midnight” too has been selected.  “In Retreat,” directed by Syed Maisam Ali Shah, tells the story of a man who returns to his hometown after many years.  The final film on the list is “The Shameless” directed by Bulgarian director Konstantin Bojanov.
