Tashkeel, an incubator of visual art and design and a commercial consultancy rooted in the UAE established in Dubai in 2008 by Sheikha Lateefa bint Maktoum bin Rashid Al Maktoum, has opened the 14th Made in Tashkeel exhibition, an annual collection of curated artworks, at FN Designs, Alserkal Avenue (June 11 – Aug. 27). Every year, Made in Tashkeel displays work from long-standing members of the Tashkeel art collective, as well as new exhibitors and instructors, artists-in-residence, workshop participants and past exhibitors, presenting a range of new artworks that use a diverse range of materials and media. “Featuring such a large number of participations underlines the ongoing growth and success of Tashkeel’s platforms and programmes in supporting artistic development throughout the UAE and the region,” says the arts major.
Tashkeel Founder and Director, Sheikha Lateefa Bint Maktoum bin Rashid Al Maktoum, has once again curated this year’s exhibition, selecting the more than 100 exhibiting artists from the UAE and beyond. Their artworks cover a range of media, including fine art, sculpture, mixed media, jewellery, photography, digital art and graphic design. Some of the materials used by the artists this year also include vegan silk, stainless steel, clay, paper, gold, sand and artificial intelligence.
The wide range of artists include Emirati talent, residents of the UAE and international art makers. About 20 Emirati artists are featured in this year’s showcase and artists also come from countries including Germany, Russia, Japan, Jordan, Egypt, Pakistan, India, Syria, Lebanon and Palestine. “Tashkeel is a popular, dynamic and valued hub for art and design in the UAE and wider Middle East and beyond. Our primary aim is to provide facilities, space and programmes that enable our artists and the larger practitioner community to explore vast creative opportunities and deliver their best work. The opportunities and resources we provide are also to keep artistic expression accessible for persons of all ages and abilities,” said Karam Hoar, Marketing & Communications Manager, Tashkeel. “With more exhibiting artists than ever before, there is a breathtaking range of depth of work on display,” he added.
