'Relay For Life' 24-hour cancer walkathon to take place in Sharjah

Looking to achieve a fitness goal but lacking the motivation to do so? Want to relieve inactive, sore muscles?
The upcoming 'Relay For Life' 24-hour cancer walkathon to be held on November 22-23, 2019 at the American University of Sharjah (AUS) could just be the answer to combine the opportunity to support a worthy cause while working on your physical fitness goals the same time.
Organised by Friends of Cancer Patients (FOCP) – a UAE-based civil society organisation dedicated to provide emotional and financial support to cancer patients, and to raise awareness and funds for cancer treatment, the overnight ‘Relay For Life’ community walkathon is an opportunity not to be missed if – among a host of great reasons – people want to put their muscles to good use.
It is a platform to reaffirm one’s commitment to physical fitness and reduce the risk of cancer and other lifestyle diseases. In doing so, participants can will attach their personal journeys to those of thousands of cancer patients fighting the disease in the UAE and around the world.
No two laps have to be the same.
Organisers have ensured that marathoners do not see a dull moment during their laps on the Relay track. Participants can run or walk the same lap in different outfits provided, or test their balancing skills with an ‘egg and spoon’ lap, for instance. Music, food trucks, games and other festivities round the clock will ensure that participants are fully entertained during the breaks they take to rest their muscles, reconnect with team members and share experiences.
It’s a great place to teach children the value of selfless support.
“The fight against cancer is a usually long and harrowing journey for patients and their families,” said Badr Al Jaidi, Project Manager for RFL. “Through participation in the RLF walkathon, you not only stand in solidarity with cancer patients and their families, and honour the memory of a loved one, it is also an inspiring way to teach the young generation the value of selfless support. Bringing children to Relay For Life, and making them aware about how the human community transcends every difference to come together in support of a cause, will ensure that we are bringing up generations of compassionate individuals.”
To make the event both fun and inspirational, the kids zone will offer face painting, a play area and other activities.
