Louis Vuitton, Prada pledge to fight against coronavirus pandemic

Louis Vuitton’s parent company LVMH has pledged to use its perfume factories to manufacture hand sanitiser in order to reduce the risk of a shortage in France amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Throughout the ongoing spread of Covid-19, sales of hand sanitiser have notably increased.

LVMH released a statement outlining its commitment to making hand sanitisers, stating that all of the production facilities for its perfume and cosmetics brands would be utilised “to produce large quantities of hydroalcoholic gel”.

LVMH added that it will “continue to honour this commitment for as long as necessary”, while working closely with the health authorities in France.

The Italian fashion house announced in a statement that the company’s co-CEOs Patrizio Bertelli and Miuccia Prada, and chairman Carlo Mazzi had personally donated six intensive care and resuscitation units to three hospitals in Milan.

Over the past week, a number of major fashion brands have donated millions to help treat those affected and help prevent the spread of the virus.

Similarly, Giorgio Armani donated €1.25m (£1.1m) to hospitals in Italy, including three hospitals in Milan and the Spallanzani hospital in Rome.
