Vietnamese fashion designer encourages youth to choose heritage

With the modern styles and cuts, the traditional Vietnamese outfits, which are made of silk and heavy embroidery, don’t really seem to be the first choice of today’s youth.

But 28-year-old Nguyen Duc Loc wants to try his best to keep the tradition and culture of the country alive with his designs.

Loc is an entrepreneur with a hard-working team of eleven people working under him.

Loc, who has a production house in Hanoi, wants to bring back yesteryear tradition and culture with a twist, to today’s modern world.

His company started gaining recognition when he started designing clothes for music videos, singers and many traditional fashion shows.

Pham Trang Nhung, a 22-year-old student who had come to see Loc's designs said most people rent traditional clothes instead of choosing to own them.

Although a far more comfortable and modern prospect than royal 19th-century clothing, some say they are too restrictive and impractical in today's world.
