The adage that necessity is the mother of all inventions aptly fits on Spanish parents who have developed advanced glasses to treat their son's visual impairment.
Puig and his wife, doctor Constanza Lucero, own a company under the name "Bell Glasses," which they had named after their son.In this company they developed the new glasses in 2021.
The new glasses rely on 3D vision technologies, artificial intelligence and augmented reality. They display text, images and video over the actual image, to enable a user to realize obstacles or read signs on the road.
They resemble the helmet used in the field of virtual reality or video games.
By the time Bell turned two, his parents got worried about his frequent falls and the difficulties he faced when he climbed stairs.
Bell was diagnosed poor sight due to a problem with the optic nerve, a problem that makes all daily tasks a real challenge.
This visual impairment cannot be treated with glasses or surgery, and there has been no technology to help people with these conditions, according to the father’s child.
The innovation was showcased during the Barcelona Mobile Fair.
"People with poor visual abilities only had sticks and guide dogs to help them move," said Spanish electrical engineer Jaume Puig.
