Antacid medications help control blood sugar, reveals study

The  antacid medications help control blood sugar in diabetics, according to the results of a study conducted by researchers at the University of California.

Antacids are a group of medicines which neutralise stomach acid by reacting with it to form water.

The presence of water in the stomach raises the level of "pH" to make the medium less acidic.

Researchers conducted an analysis on the use of antacids of a type called proton pump inhibitors (PPIs), an antacid drug, and its effect on blood sugar levels in diabetic patients.

Researchers found that antacids can reduce accumulative blood sugar levels by 36% in patients with diabetes.

It was also found that they reduce fasting blood sugar of ten mg/dL, based on results of seven clinical trials.
