It is time perhaps for food-delivery platforms Swiggy and Zomato to make way for a new entrant in the business.
The Postal Department in Bengaluru has ventured into an entirely different domain: delivery of food products at homes in the city.
It has begun a pilot run on the doorstep delivery of idli and dosa batter and other cook and eat products.
The department sees this venture as a major revenue earner if it engulfs the whole state of Karnataka and other states as well.
A report in a section of the Indian media quotes a senior official saying delivery of products from the popular Hallimane group has commenced.
What could turn the tide in its favour is the demographic complex of the city, which consists of a sizeable South Indian population. Idlis (steamed rice cakes) and dosas (thin batter-based dishes) are hot favourites of those from South India. However, even communities from other states also relish it.
If all goes well, this is one mail delivery which could hit pay dirt.
