SHARJAH: Sharjah Police and the General Directorate of Civil Defence responded to the report of a gas leak incident in one of the Industrial Areas on Saturday morning.
The police’s quick response and heroic act have saved more than 93 people from a gas leak that took place in a metal scrap shop in Al Sajaa Industrial Area. The incident resulted in the death of a person, and others in critical conditions.
Police patrols rushed to the scene, along with the Civil Defence, ambulances, and forensic experts. The team successfully managed to control the situation and save the surrounding properties.
The Sharjah Electricity and Water Authority (SEWA), Sharjah Municipality, and Bee'ah experts helped the police in controlling the situation. The task was carried out under the direct field supervision of Brigadier General Mohammad Rashid Bayat, Director General of Police Operations, and Colonel Sami Al Naqbi, Director General of the Civil Defence Department in Sharjah.
The specialised forces worked together to safely evacuate the Labour Camps and directly transport the injured people to the hospital, while handling the gas leak.
Lastly, Sharjah Police ask owners of metal scrap shops to be more attentive and follow the safety instructions to avoid such incidents.
