DUBAI: A fake policeman who kidnapped two men and forced one of them to kiss a woman’s feet and apologise for having wronged her must see out his punishment.
The Asian defendant –a sales agent, 27- first appeared at the Dubai Criminal Court on Oct.29 last year for having posed as a cop and kidnapped the Indian cashier, 62, and his compatriot friend –a visitor, 29- on Aug.5.
Prosecutors explained that he posed as a detective from Sharjah Police Criminal Investigations Department and called both for a meeting at Union Metro Station, both complained to the Naif Police Station.
He battered and forced the cashier inside a vehicle. He ordered the petrified visitor to enter. The visitor surrendered.
He took them to the Business Bay area where he forced the cashier to apologise to the woman and kiss her feet.
“I did not do that,” he argued. However, the court found him guilty and sentenced him to six months behind bars after which he will be deported. He maintained his denial. However, the Dubai Appeals Court upheld the punishment.
In prosecution records, the cashier complained that he received a call from someone who identified himself as S (the defendant in disguise).
He claimed he was a detective from Sharjah and wanted to see him immediately.
“He told me to find him at Union Metro Station.
He also contacted my friend. We went together to the said location. He turned out to be the defendant.
“The moment I approached him he seized and forced me inside his vehicle.
“He beat me then ordered my friend to get inside. He took us to the Business Bay where we found the woman waiting.”
The defendant ordered him to kiss her feet and apologise.
“From there, he took us and dropped us in Sharjah.” The friend gave a similar account.
