Police arrest fake currency gang

Sharjah Police special teams from the Anti-Economic Crime Department of the Criminal Investigation Department have successfully taken down a gang who attempted to trade in counterfeit bills of Dhs100 and 200 at grocery shops and gas stations in the Emirate. The counterfeit bills were worth Dhs45,500.

Details of the incident came after it was reported that a group of Asians were trying to use counterfeit currency to purchase items. Based on such information, investigation teams were formed and successfully managed to trace the suspects, their location and their identity.

The police force searched the residence of the suspects after receiving a search warrant from the concerned authorities, where they found counterfeit notes worth Dhs45,500.

The Sharjah Police General Directorate calls upon residents of the UAE to cooperate and work with them by reporting any heinous actions or crimes that may affect the financial safety and security of families.

Roommate murder

Amir Al Sonny reported that The Criminal Court of Fujairah has deferred issuing the verdict in a murder case, in which an Asian worker was killed by his colleague to the end of April. This was after the victim’s heirs waived retribution and accepted 600,000 Indian rupees as blood money to be paid by the accused.

The accused, who reportedly was living with the victim in the workers’ accommodation, had an altercation with him after drinking among a group of other five. The argument turned into quarrel and fighting, and despite their companions attempting to settle the situation, the accused assaulted the victim and stabbed him with a knife in his stomach. The victim was transferred to hospital, where he died due to the critical wounds he sustained. The police arrested the accused and referred him to the juridical authorities for further legal actions.

In a previous hearing session, the court confronted the defendant with his confessions before the prosecution, along with the report of the criminal laboratory, which confirmed that his fingerprints were on the knife. The witnesses further confirmed that he had stabbed the victim. The police also found the defendant’s shirt stained with blood; however, the defendant denied the charge.
