Filipinos in Sharjah and the neighbouring emirates gathered together at the Expo Centre Sharjah to celebrate the third edition of the Kabayan Cultural Day organised by the Sharjah Book Authority (SBA) at the Sharjah Children’s Reading Festival (SCRF) 2019.
Colourful costumes, cultural dances, a singing competition, and even a cosplay contest marked the celebrations.
Welcoming the event’s participants, Ahmed Bin Rakkad Al Ameri, Chairman, SBA, said: “We are all gathered here today to show the unity and cultural harmony we have built over decades. We are here to turn another leaf in our journey of friendship, and we hope that this edition of the Sharjah Children’s Reading Festival offers you all ample more opportunities to ‘Explore Knowledge’ in its various forms,” he added.
Beginning with a colourful procession led by a band, the activities took off with a cosplay competition featuring children dressed up as their favourite fictional characters like Harry Potter, Poseiden, Snow White and Maleficient, among others.
An Arabic reading competition, singing contest and a Filipino tribal dance performance were also held.
True to its tradition, SCRF 2019 is bringing a diverse offering of shows and interactive workshops to advance children’s knowledge and expand their creative horizons.
The festival’s events span several programmes, under the main themes of Kids Activities, Cultural Activities, Comic Station Activities, and Social Media Activities.
Visitors to SCRF 2019, which runs until April 27 at Expo Centre Sharjah under the theme ‘Explore Knowledge,’ can gain knowledge on varied subjects at workshops and sessions that are held daily for the duration of the festival.
