Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher Bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, Wife of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah and Chairperson of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs (SCFA), said that a huge investment is required to support and nurture children with education in order to ensure a world based on open dialogue and understanding. Her Highness also pointed out that Sharjah depends on its children, who will together create a stable present and pave the way for a bright future.
This came during Her Highness’s visit to the ongoing Sharjah Children’s Reading Festival (SCRF 2019) at Sharjah Expo Centre, where she toured the exhibition halls and pavilions and was briefed on the events, seminars and other activities on the festival’s 2,546 activity agenda. Her Highness also took part in some of the workshops and recreational activities that were happening during her visit.
Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher Al Qasimi was accompanied by Princess Munira Bint Abdul Mohsen Bin Jalawi Al Saud and was received by Ahmed bin Rakkad Al Ameri, Chairman of the Sharjah Book Authority (SBA), during the tour.
“With each edition of SCRF, Sharjah reaffirms the vision and leadership of His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, reflected in our commitment to younger generations, and emphasises the important responsibility on our children’s shoulders to lead Sharjah’s and the UAE’s cultural journey. They must be given the opportunities they need to become true partners and contributors, for they are our future, and the ones who will carry our message to the world,” Sheikha Jawaher said.
Her Highness added, “Today, we are harvesting the fruits of the seeds sown by the Ruler of Sharjah in the children more than 40 years ago. The sincere efforts put in by His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan Al Qasimi to cultivate new generations with leading knowledge and an in-depth understanding and appreciation of culture has come to fruition. In the form of confident young women and men who are using this knowledge to lead Sharjah on the path of progress and attaining remarkable achievements at various levels, along the way.
“Investing in new generations is a step towards overcoming a series of challenges facing many countries in the world today, like the resistance to cultural development. If we raise learned generations that can express themselves and can and hold successful dialogues with others, then we are well on our way to building a nation that is safe, secure and can establish relationships based on respect. By encouraging children to unleash their capabilities and achieve their aspirations, we will be giving innovators, leaders and scientists to the world.”
Sheikha Jawaher also toured the new exhibitions that SCRF 2019 has curated. One is named ‘Travelling the Silk Road’, which celebrates the ancient route that had shaped and influenced trade across the world for centuries. The other exhibition, ‘Voyage to the Deep’, is an interactive set-up that brings to life the deep-sea adventures of French science fiction writer, Jules Verne. Her Highness also toured the Sharjah Children’s Book Illustrations Exhibition, which is in its eighth edition this year and features 320 illustrators from 55 countries.
