The Victoria International School of Sharjah (VISS), a premium school offering the Australian Curriculum and IB diploma, collaborated with the Sharjah Government Nurseries for the third consecutive year. Twenty teachers were professionally trained and mentored on the Victorian Early Years Framework. His Highness Dr Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, visited the school together with members of the Sharjah Education Council. His Highness awarded certificates to the participating teachers from Sharjah Government Nurseries and VISS teachers.
Sponsored by the Sharjah Education Council, a select group of nursery teachers from the emirate took part in the six-week programme at VISS. In the first five weeks of the programme, the school’s staff mentored the nursery teachers in various aspects of the framework. Topics ranged from respectful relationships and responsive engagement, learning environment within the classroom, integrated teaching and learning approaches, the educators’ role in supporting learning and communicating with students through responsive feedback. During the last week of the programme, VISS staff observed the teachers in the classrooms implementing the teachings and provided feedback on key learnings.
“On behalf of the team at VISS we would like to thank Sharjah Education Council for their ongoing support in promoting and sponsoring this wonderful collaboration. This programme demonstrates VISS as a world-class education provider and shows our commitment in supporting the Government’s vision for the Sharjah education sector. We look forward to collaborating again next year,” said Dean Pyrah, Executive Principal of VISS.
The programme was led by two staff members from VISS: Reshma Kudrolli, Director of the Early Learning Centre and Marrem Murad, Educational Leader.
Reshma Kudrolli said: “We are delighted to have partnered with the Sharjah Government Nurseries for another successful year. During the six weeks that the programme has been running, we have been able to share and exchange knowledge, create dialogue, and take a deep dive into building a positive learning environment that will support and enhance the educational development in early years’ students.”
This is the 7th training/mentoring programme which the Sharjah Education Council holds in partnership with VISS, training over approximately 200 teachers and principals across nursery, primary and middle school.
