UAE airlines cancel some flights to Kolkata due to Cyclone Fani

The UAE’s leading airlines Emirates and Etihad have cancelled their flights to Kolkata, India.
The Emirates said, “Due to tropical storm FANI in the East Coast of India, Emirates flights EK572 and EK573 to and from Kolkata on 3 May have been cancelled. Customers who have booked tickets prior to 3rd May have the option to change their booking up to 7 days of the travel date and/ or can request for a refund without any charges.
“Affected customers are requested to contact their booking agent or Emirates reservations to rebook their flights or make alternative travel arrangements.
“Customers are advised to make sure their contact details are updated on Manage Your booking to receive latest notifications.
“We continue to monitor the situation closely and will update our customers as the situation develops.”
Etihad Airways said that its flight EY 256 and EY 255 were cancelled due to the cyclone.
At least three people died on Friday as Cyclone Fani, the biggest in years, slammed into eastern India, sending coconut trees flying and cutting off power, water and telecommunications.
The monster weather system made landfall at the holy city of Puri in the morning, with winds gusting at up to 200 kilometres (125 miles) per hour.
In recent days authorities in Odisha state, where 10,000 people perished in a 1999 Cyclone, evacuated more than a million people as they worried about a possible 1.5-metre (five-foot) storm surge sweeping far inland.
