Betty Rita Fernandes, 42, died during a hip replacement surgery in Al Zahra Hospital, Dubai, on Thursday, May 9.
According to a section in the media, the deceased had a congenital issue, making her hip slightly displaced since birth.
The Betty was admitted for a supposed two-hour surgery, but complications developed, which led to a second surgery where she died.
Last week, an Emirati woman slipped into coma after a botched surgery.
Dr Marwan Al Mulla, CEO of the Health Regulation Sector at the DHA said, “The health sector in the Emirate follows international standards, regulations and conditions for medical practice. Therefore, failure to abide by them puts violator under legal liability in accordance with the legislation of the country.”
Dr Al Mulla added that the authority is dealing with the case in a transparent manner, while taking into consideration the privacy of patients and the confidentiality of the investigation. Also the medical negligence suffered will not go unpunished.
The deceased was a mother of two.
Betty, was from Mumbai, India, ran a facebook page, “Betty's Cake Tales.”
