Rain causes Iftar tent to collapse

Medium to heavy rain continued falling in the cities and areas east of the country for the third day in a row, accompanied by lightning and thunderstorms. This led to the fall of an Iftar tent of a charity in Fujairah, four hours before Iftar time. No injuries were reported.

The rain, which lasted longer than one hour, led to a decrease in temperatures, and surface run-offs, which left behind a wonderful atmosphere. Many of people got out to the valleys to enjoy the views.

The GHQ of the Fujairah Police confirmed that no traffic accidents were recorded, except for minor accidents, which are often caused by the traffic jams, due to the accumulation of water.

Meanwhile, the Fujairah Municipality confirmed its ability to tackle the effects of rain through mobilising its competent bodies to deal with the rainwater pools in the streets and managed to remove all the water from the roads using special equipment.

A recent report said light rain fell on Abu Dhabi and its environs such as Al Falah, Shakhbout, Mohammed Bin Zayed and Khalifa cities, and Abu Dhabi International Airport, in Dubai on the Dubai International Airport, Al Warqa and Al Mamzar, and in Sharjah on Muweileh and Sharjah International Airport, in addition to areas in Umm Al Quwain, Ras Al Khaimah and Fujairah.

The National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) has expected that the volatile weather may remain likely with rainfall of different intensities over most areas of the country, associated with thunder activity at times and hailstones fall.

 Temperatures tend to decrease. While the winds will be fresh southwesterly to northwesterly, and strong at times causing blowing dust and sand over exposed areas, with a speed of 30 – 45 km/h, may exceed 70 Km/hr. The waves will be rough to very rough especially with clouds activity in the Arabian Gulf and rough in the Oman Sea. 

An earlier report said the National Center of Meteorology expected a trough of low pressure to extend over the region resulting in the flow of a moist air mass from the Arabian Sea, accompanied with an upper air trough from the North.

In a statement the NCM said this will cause the movement of clouds from Southwestern Arabian Peninsula and increase the amount of clouds over the country, embedded with some convective rainy clouds from time to time over scattered areas, may be associated with lighting and thunder and gusting winds.
