Trio get jail terms over ID card thefts

The Criminal Court in Dubai on Tuesday sentenced three Asian convicts to three years in jail plus deportation over stealing 100 Emirates ID cards from a post office and selling them for Dhs3,800.
The fourth defendant involved in the case was acquitted of the charges. In the details, the Public Prosecution of Dubai referred four Asian expats to the Criminal Court who connived to steal 100 Emirates ID cards from a post office.
The fourth defendant incited the first one, who works in a post office, to steal ID cards and then sell them to the second and third defendants.
The duties of the first accused were to receive the shipments of ID cards that are delivered by a federal body. He then sorts and keeps those cards in the ID cards’ room in order to be delivered to their owners. He exploited his position and entered the room of ID cards from which he stole 100 cards three times. He allegedly sold them for Dhs3,800 to the second and third defendants inciting the first one, who works in a post office, to steal ID cards and then sell them to the second and third defendants.
DRUG ABUSE
Two Khaleeji men and an Arab woman on Tuesday appeared before the Criminal Court in Fujairah over the charge of abusing drugs.
According to the police records, the two men reportedly arranged to spend a night together in the company of the woman who is a friend of one of them to consume psychotropic substances using shisha.
The defendants were caught in possession of “crystal” which they were consuming by shisha. The first defendant denied the charge, while the second and the third defendants confessed to abusing the drugs.
The woman said that she was in a relationship with the second defendant which began at a coffee shop and then they began meeting regularly to smoke shisha together.
The second defendant convinced the woman to accompany him home where they consumed crystal in shisha. After that, he provided her with the narcotic whenever she needed, the Court heard.
The Anti-Narcotics Department received information about the defendants and their meetings. Thus, they were put under surveillance, ambushed, arrested and brought to trial on charges of consuming psychotropic substances.
