RTA gives Ramadan rations to 500 needy families

Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) launched an array of Ramadan-oriented events highlighted by the annual Ramadan Rations initiative for distributing Ramadan supplies to 500 underprivileged families of students at the National Charity Schools in Dubai, Sharjah and Ajman.

The step, which coincides with Zayed Humanitarian Day (19th of Ramadan), underscores RTA’s commitment to the value of giving during this blessed month.

“RTA distributed Ramadan Rations to 500 needy families of students at the National Charity Schools in Dubai, Sharjah and Ajman in coordination with the management of these schools,” said Rowdah Al Mehrizi, Director of Marketing and Corporate Communication Department at RTA’s Corporate Administrative Support Services Sector.

RTA also distributed a special edition of nol card commemorating the ‘Year of Tolerance’ to those families for paying bills of shopping in various retail outlets in Dubai and other Emirates. Cards can also be used for paying the fares of public transport and fees of paid parking in Dubai. (Ramadan with Thukhur) was another initiative organized by RTA whereby Iftar meals were served to senior citizens affiliated to Thukhur Social Club. A team of RTA volunteers distributed a variety of gifts to them as well.

For the ninth year in a row, RTA distributed Iftar meals to public transport riders in Dubai under the initiative(Meals on Wheels). This time around, two buses distributed meals over a week to workers and underprivileged families. The initiative consisted of two parts; the first dedicated to distributing Iftar meals to students from needy families that enrolled for evening classes of those schools. The second part catered to the processing and distributing of 6000 Sahoor meals to workers through a team of employees of RTA and parties concerned.

“RTA also partnered with Al-Ihsan Charity Association for the distribution of Iftar meals before Maghreb prayer call, under a campaign themed Together A Ramadan Without Accidents,” concluded Al Mehrizi.

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, has ordered bonus payments of Dhs26.03 million to Emirati owners of 5,206 taxi number plates operated by Dubai Taxi Corporation and its franchise companies.

The Roads and Transport Authority, RTA, will begin processing payments of the 2018 bonus to beneficiaries together with their annual dues starting in Holy Month of Ramadan.

Mattar Al Tayer, RTA Director General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors, thanked Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid for the generous reward to owners of taxi number plates, most of whom are fixed income earners. He added that such bonuses support the beneficiaries in ensuring a decent living for them and their families.

“This bonus is one of the various philanthropic initiatives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed who is firmly focused on bringing happiness to the people. Incidentally, this time, the payment coincides with the beginning of Ramadan. The gesture is a true reflection of His Highness’ keenness to follow up on the social affairs and living conditions of his people, and promote solidarity between community members,” said Al Tayer.

Recently, the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority, RTA,  explored cooperation opportunities with Australia’s state of Queensland.

Mattar Al Tayer, RTA Director-General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors recently met with Annastacia Palaszczuk, Queensland Premier and Minister for Trade. During the meeting, the two sides discussed means of boosting cooperation and sharing expertise between the RTA and its Australian counterpart.

Al Tayed and Palaszczuk also reviewed the RTA’s upcoming projects, including the use of electric-powered buses.

The RTA Director-General praised the relationship between the authority and Australian entities operating in the fields of public transport, marine transport and licencing. “We have a good level of cooperation with several Australian firms operating in the fields of public transport, vehicle licensing and registration, training of drivers, and traffic systems.
