UAE sets up moon-sighting committee to confirm end of Ramadan

Sultan Bin Saeed Al Badi Al Dhaheri, Minister of Justice, has issued a decision setting up a moon-sighting committee to detect the beginning of the month of Shawwal, which will mark the end of Ramadan and start of Eid Al Fitr.

The committee will hold a meeting under the chairmanship of the Justice Minister along with a number of senior officials, after Maghrib prayer on Monday, 3rd of June (29th Ramadan) at the Abu Dhabi Judicial Department.

The decision also calls on all Sharia courts across the country to look out for the crescent moon and inform the committee of any sightings.

Emirates Airlines anticipates a busy weekend ahead of the Eid holiday with heavy traveller volumes to and from Dubai.

The busiest time for departures in Terminal 3 will be on Friday 31st May with over 80,000 passengers travelling abroad. Customers are reminded to arrive at the airport at least three hours before their flight departure to avoid any delays.

Peak travel is expected to continue until Monday 3rd June 2019 with over 309,000 Emirates passengers travelling from Dubai during this period of time. With expected traffic congestion around Terminal 3, and road works continuing to cause traffic delays around main airport highways and roads during this time - Emirates urges customers to build in extra time for their journeys to avoid potential delays.

Passengers can physically check in at the airport as early as 24 hours before flight departure, and are requested to check in no later than 2 hours prior to departure, regardless of class of travel.

Customers who check in less than 60 minutes prior to their scheduled flight departure will not be accepted for travel. Customers can also check in online on both their desktops and mobile devices from 48 hours to 90 minutes before flight departure.

The Integrated Transport Center (ITC) in Abu Dhabi announced that its surface public parking bays will be free of charge during Eid Al Fitr holiday and the timings of the Customer Service Centers, Public Transport Buses and Ferries.

Surface Parking bays will be free of charge starting from Sunday, June 2nd to Saturday, June 8th at 7:59am.

In that regard, ITC urges motorists not to park their vehicles in prohibited areas and not to block vehicles or traffic flow. ITC has also advocated the public to adhere to the regulations regarding resident parking from 9:00pm to 8:00am.
