Driver dies as two cars fall into Sharjah’s Khalid Lagoon

The Sharjah security departments at 11.24pm on Sunday were alerted about two vehicles that had fallen into the Khalid Lagoon in Al Khan area opposite the Sharjah Courts Complex. The rescue teams at the Central Operations Department of the Sharjah Police, following intensified efforts, succeeded in pulling out the dead body of a driver who was stuck in one of the two vehicles. The marine rescue units, the police patrols (Anjad), and the CID teams at the Buhairah Police Station participated in the rescue operation.

The two vehicles were found to be unlicensed after they had been pulled out from the water.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the driver who died was responsible for the incident. He hit the second car parked near the coast. Both the cars then fell into the lagoon.

As the Sharjah Police continue the investigations into the incident to uncover the circumstances, they have warned motorists against stopping their vehicles very close to the seafront or the coastal sites to avoid falling into the sea. The police urged the public to exercise caution when moving vehicles or driving in such locations, to avoid such unfortunate incidents.
