Two Emirati children drown in Ras Al Khaimah swimming pool

Emirati twin boys, two-and-a-half years old, drowned in a house’s swimming pool on Friday in the emirate of Ras Al Khaimah.

A team of the National Ambulance along with the rescuers recovered their bodies from the swimming pool and transferred them to the hospital. They tried all ways to revive them, but in vain. The necessary legal measures have been completed prior to handing them over to their family for the burial.

The two children were reported missing on Friday at 10.10 pm. The security teams at the Ras Al Khaimah Police immediately began search operations for the children following the alert received by the operations room, said Major Tareq Mohammed Al Sharhan, Head of the Ambulance and Rescue Department at Ras Al Khaimah Police.

While searching for the twin boys in the reported area for more than an hour, another alert received by the operations room at 11.33pm indicated that the children had been found drowned in a swimming pool in the house next to theirs, Al Sharhan added.

He continued, “The ambulance and rescue teams rushed to the location, where the children were found and they recovered them from the swimming pool. Attempts to resuscitate them failed and they were declared dead." Brigadier Mohammed Saeed Al Humaidi, Director-General of the Central Operations Room at Ras Al Khaimah Police, called on parents to take care of their children, keep an eye on them and not leave them unattended to maintain their safety.

He continued, “All corridors, doors, or paths leading to the swimming pool should be strictly closed down, so that no one can have access to the pool, which should also be tightly sealed and all precautionary measures should be taken.” He expressed deep sorrow for the drowning incident of the twin children, extending his heartfelt and sincere condolences to their family.
