Under the patronage of Her Highness Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak, Chairwoman of the General Women's Union, GWU, President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, and Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation, FDF, the GWU will hold its first group wedding in Al Mirfa, Al Dhafra, on Wednesday, under the slogan, "Al Mirfa weddings: The Implementation of the Vision of the Mother of the UAE."
During a speech, delivered by Fatma Al Mehrezi, Director of the Human Resources Department at the GWU, Noura Al Suwaidi, Director of the GWU, stated that the union’s first "Group wedding Initiative" aims to ensure happiness and family cohesion and support the youth who desire to get married.
She also welcomed the support of private companies and community organisations while pointing out that Sheikha Fatima, the "Mother of the UAE," is keen to make UAE citizens and residents happy, by encouraging them to marry and live stable lives.
She then noted that the late Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan launched many initiatives that gave young people happy family lives, and the country’s leadership is continuing this legacy by holding group weddings and encouraging government authorities and private companies to organise relative projects.
The initiative is part of the directives of Sheikha Fatima to achieve the national priority of creating a cohesive community, Al Suwaidi added.
The sponsors praised Sheikha Fatima’s efforts and expressed their willingness to support similar humanitarian projects while stressing that the country’s leadership leads in launching related initiatives, which coincide with the Year of Tolerance.
Al Mehrezi said that the wedding will involve ten young couples and its sponsors will cover all the expenses.
The wedding sponsors include Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank, MNC Healthcare, the City Services Sector of the Al Dhafra Municipality, NMC Royal Women's Hospital, Soussy Beauty Centre, the Emirati Heritage Fashion House, the Wanassa Company for weddings Services, and the Matajer Company for Development.
