The Sharjah Criminal Court looked into the case of an Asian charged with murdering his friend after a quarrel broke out between them during which the defendant was drunk and stabbed the victim to death.
The court listened to the victim’s brother’s statement, in which he refused to waive retribution and the Diya.
The younger brother of the victim was present as the victim’s agent carrying his father’s letter to the court asking for retribution, rejecting the legal Diya presented by the defendant through his lawyer.
Details date back to earlier when the victim threatened to publish the naked picture of the suspect’s sister on social networking sites, which aroused his anger and consequently a verbal altercation happened and turned into a fistfight.
Then the suspect brought a knife from the kitchen and stabbed the victim in the chest, which led to his death, and fled, but was later arrested.
Meanwhile, in a separate case the Abu Dhabi Appeal Court released a GCC woman charged with issuing a dud cheque for Dhs500,000. The suspect asked the court to bail her to settle the issue with the complainant.
The details date back to earlier when someone filed a lawsuit against the defendant asking her to pay him Dhs500,000, the value of a cheque she had issued on his behalf. The defendant admitted the issuance of the cheque, noting that the value of the real debt was Dhs35,000.
The suspect asked the court time to communicate with the complainant and settle it down with him through the instalment. She noted she had been imprisoned for two years on other cases.
The court adjourned the case to Sept.3 (Tuesday) and released the suspect after a guarantee for Dhs10,000 was deposited.

During the session, the victim’s brother refused to waive the retribution, rejecting all mediation and financial offers.
The brother also affirmed to the court that all members of his family insisted on retribution.
The suspect’s lawyer told the court the suspect was defending himself, saying: “The victim and a girl attended to the spot where the suspect was and there a dispute between them arose because the victim allegedly violated the regulations in force in the company they all worked for.”
