Two Emirati children aged 3 and 4 died in a fire that broke out in their parents’ house in Al Madhab, Fujairah City, on Monday.
According to Brigadier Ali Obaid Al Tunaiji, Director of Fujairah Civil Defence Department, the two children were alone with their grandmother when the fire erupted at 10.30am. Their parents were at work at the time.
Firefighters rushed to the site and were able to bring the fire under control and prevent it from spreading to the nearby houses.
Al Tunaiji pointed out that the police initiated an investigation into what caused the fire after the two children had been taken to Fujairah Hospital for further legal procedures.
He called on citizens and residents to instal smoke detectors in their houses in implementation of the directives of the wise leadership and follow-up of the Ministry of Interior and Civil Defence Department as these devices are so important in alerting people and detecting fires and smokes and hence minimising losses in lives and property.
He also called on them to carry out regular maintenance to all their electric appliances and to avoid using them for a long time or leaving them unattended.
