In keeping with its dedication to promoting a culture of sports and encouraging children to exercise, the Sharjah Women’s Sports (SWS) will be organising a Summer Sports Camp for children from July 7 to August 29. The camp is aimed at gainfully harnessing the summer break to benefit children by honing their physical and intellectual skills.
The camp will be held at the SWS Club for boys aged 5 - 9 years and girls aged 5 - 15 years. It will raise awareness on the importance of sports and foster a culture of physical exercise to enable the children to grow their individual capabilities in different sports.
The camp will offer creative activities apart from sports like basketball, volleyball, football, karate, fencing, table tennis, gymnastics and zumba. Other activities will include competitions, recreational trips and cooking sessions, in addition to art and craft classes. Recreational trips will be organised to key leisure destinations in Sharjah and Dubai, such as Al Qasba Theatre, Sharjah Art Foundation’s Rain Room, Sharjah Aquarium, Dubai Dolphinarium, the Expo 2020 site, Sharjah Discovery Centre and Sharjah Science Museum. The closing ceremony will include reading contests in Arabic and English, apart from mind games and other competitions.
Amal Al Aidrous, Head of Marketing and Business Development at SWS, said, “SWS is committed to offering diverse sports activities at the Summer Sports Camp, in line with our vision to encourage all people, especially children, to exercise, play sports and fit physical activity into their everyday lives. A healthy mind leads to a healthy body, and the development of children’s physical skills enhances their confidence and improves their social skills.”
She added, “This year’s camp will feature an array of exciting sports, art and intellectual activities that are aimed at furthering children’s potential, talents and creativity. The programme is designed to teach the young participants how to make the most of their leisure time during summer break. It offers them the opportunity to learn and have fun in a safe environment, under the supervision of an expert team of coaches.”
Established in November 2016, under an Emiri decree issued by His Highness Dr Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, SWS aims to empower national women athletes and develop human capital in the field of women’s sports. It also seeks to create a talented generation of women leaders in sports, encourage women’s participation in different sports, foster a culture of sports and provide a stimulating environment that contributes to advancing women’s sports.
