The Abu Dhabi Civil Defence rescued 21 people who were trapped in a villa that caught fire in the Mishref area of Abu Dhabi.
The fire reportedly erupted on the villa’s first floor, which is divided into nine partitions that are inhabited by three families of different nationalities.
Lieutenant Colonel Salem Hashim Al-Habashi, Director of Operations Department of the General Directorate of Civil Defence, said that the rescued persons ranged from two months to 47 years. Three cases of suffocation due to inhalation of smoke were transferred to the hospital by the Abu Dhabi Police’ ambulance.
The fire team at the Civil Defence centre of Qubaisat was immediately dispatched to the scene upon an alert about the fire received by the operations room. They controlled and extinguished the fire, preventing its spread to the rest of the building.
Al-Habashi emphasised the importance to adhere to public safety conditions and strengthen preventive measures in housing, and to avoid the causes of fire for the safety of all. He also pointed out that investigations are ongoing to find out the circumstances and causes of the fire.
