Police continue road safety campaign

The Sharjah Police General Directorate, together with the Traffic Awareness and Media Department, is continuing its tyre-safety awareness campaign for road travellers, in line with the Ministry of Interior’s objective of making the roads safe for users.

Captain Saud Al Shaiba, Acting Director of the Traffic Awareness and Media Department, said, “The tyre-safety campaign aims at raising awareness of road users on the importance of taking proper safety precautions when driving their vehicles.

Drivers must check the condition of tyres to prevent them from being worn-out by summer heat, as well as carry out regular inspections on their vehicles.”

He added that the campaign will carry on and cover multiple areas in the Emirate of Sharjah.

Rafid Automotive Solutions also took part in the ongoing campaign, where they offered free inspection of tyres for several vehicles to ensure they are in safe condition for long trips.

Free coupons for full vehicle inspections were distributed to ensure the safety of both drivers and passengers.

Multilingual pamphlets were also distributed on drivers to raise their awareness on regular tyres inspection before driving their vehicles.

Recently, Sharjah police unveiled a device broadcasting alert messages via radio waves to warn motorists to give way to police patrols, ambulance and emergency vehicles.

The move came as fulfilment of directives of Maj Gen Saif Al Zari Al Shamsi, Commander-in-Chief of Sharjah Police, to harness cutting-edge technology with the aim to develop police’s capabilities.

It further goes in line with the Ministry of Interior’s strategy to enhance safety and security to ensure quick response to emergencies.

The newly launched device broadcasts warning messages to motorists in several languages via radio waves to alert them to make way for the patrol, and thus enable quick access to the emergency location.

The device broadcasts three recorded audio messages: the first alerts to the presence of a police vehicle approaching, the second alerts to the presence of a police car ahead, and the third to the presence of a police car approaching the intersection, urging to give way.
