UAE Food Bank on Monday honoured individuals and entities who had participated in its initiative during the Holy Month of Ramadan in the presence of Dawoud Al Hajri, Director General of Dubai Municipality and Vice Chairman of the Board of Trustees of UAE Food Bank, who presented certificates of appreciation to companies and establishments for supporting the Bank.
Al Hajri emphasised that UAE Food Bank strives to involve the largest number of community establishments and volunteers in a new charity system that follows the founders’ footsteps.
He explained that the Bank has achieved a remarkable success during the holy month of Ramadan.
“The Food Bank has successfully distributed thousands of Iftar and Suhoor meals to various segments of the society in cooperation with government agencies and charity organisations as well as private sector companies in the country, achieving the Bank’s objectives of providing food to the needy and reducing food wastage and supporting charitable and humanitarian initiatives,” said Al Hajri.
He pointed out that the UAE Food Bank has gained special importance in view of the increasing global interest in food security issues and has achieved all its objectives.
It is worth mention that the UAE Food Bank has witnessed various kinds of help and support from companies that have contributed in various fields, including providing meals, transportation and logistics, as well as in conducting the campaign to reduce food wastage by collecting food donations from the public in containers at different locations in shopping complexes and consumer food stores, as well as raising awareness on the importance of preserving the blessing through the Consumable Surplus Dry Food Collection Initiative by a scout team and their parents at a private school.
About 33 organisations participated in the Ramadan campaign and an average 144,000 meals were distributed during the month, which is equivalent to 4800 meals per day.
Careem participated in the transfer and distribution of a number of meals in addition to the Ramadan Coupons for needy families. Careem delivered 350 meals to UAE Food Bank fridge sites during the holy month. Al Nahda Women’s Association also participated and distributed a variety of dry and canned foods, concentrated juices and oils to cover the needs of about 610 families.
