Sixteen workers sustained moderate to serious injuries when the bus they were in overturned on the Emirates Road on their way back home.
The operations room at Sharjah Police General Headquarters received a report at 7:57pm Wednesday that a bus transporting workers overturned on the Emirates Road from Dubai to Sharjah after the driver lost control.
The bus settled outside the barrier by the side of the road and traffic patrols and national ambulance rushed to the scene.
Ten workers with moderate injuries were taken to Al Dhaid Hospital for medical treatment and have been checked out. Another worker with serious injuries is still in the surgery section of the hospital.
The other five with multiple injuries including fractures, wounds and bruises in the back were admitted to the Kuwait Hospital and are still there.
Recently, two Asians succumbed to their serious injuries when the bus they were in suddenly swerved and overturned on Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Street in Ras Al Khaimah.
The victims were accompanying 31 Asian domestic workers from different age groups.
According to Ras Al Khaimah Police, the accident took place at 12 noon on a Thursday and caused serious to moderate injuries to six passengers and minor injuries to 23 others.
Brigadier Dr Mohammed Saeed Al Hamidi, Director General of Central Operations at Ras Al Khaimah Police, said as soon as the operations room received a call regarding the accident, Brigadier Ahmed Al Sam Al Naqbi, Director of Traffic and Patrols Department, other officers and traffic patrols rushed to the scene to manage the traffic and facilitate the mission of ambulances and rescue and civil defence vehicles.
The victims were transferred to the hospital and then to their parents for burial as per the observed regulations, while the injured were hospitalised for necessary medical treatment. The accident file has been referred to the competent authorities for further legal procedures.
Al Hamidi has called on drivers to be attentive on the road, check the tyres of their vehicles, particularly in summer, and carry out the necessary maintenance of their vehicles regularly. He also asked them to abide by the traffic rules observed in the UAE.
